With FIFA 13 to be released worldwide a little less than 10 days from now, and Chelsea being the defending champions and the currently leading the league, I thought it is time to predict the player ratings EA might assign to the first team.
(1) Petr Cech
FIFA 12 rating: 85
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 86
With a string of superb performances leading to Champions League win, Cech was all set to be one of the best in FIFA 13, but few blunders in the Euro 12 might have cost Cech a few points there.
(2) Branislav Ivanovic
FIFA 12 rating: 83
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 84
Ivanovic has proved time and again how important a player he is in both positions of the defence. A solid set of performances was overshadowed by the suspension from the UCL final against Bayern; a good season nonetheless.
(3) Ashley Cole
FIFA 12 rating: 85
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 85
Last year, he was the best left back in the world; nothing has changed this time around. A great performance in the final against Bayern, and ironically, his only error in the game cost Chelsea the goal in the dying minutes. Put the icing on the cake with a perfect but cheeky penalty!
(4) David Luiz
FIFA 12 rating: 82
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 82
Villas Boas' high line made him look a weak pawn in the four man defence, particularly with his habit of attacking and going out of position. Revived into a better defender under di Matteo, and managed to play 120 minutes in the final with an injury.
(6) Oriol Romeu
FIFA 12 rating: 69
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 75
At the time FIFA 12 came out, Romeu was an almost unknown player. He did manage to get a few starts under Villas Boas, and seemed to do significantly well. However, he was just a fringe player under di Matteo!
(7) Ramires
FIFA 12 rating: 79
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 84
This season saw the emergence of the 'Blue Kenyan' as a right winger from a holding midfielder, with the highlight of the season being his goal against Barcelona, which turned the game towards Chelsea's favor!
(8) Frank Lampard
FIFA 12 rating: 87
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 85
Lampard was benched by Villas Boas, but showed a quick rise in form under di Matteo. With the new signings, Lampard will be put back into the holding midfield role, which will undermine his ability, but with his experience, he can guide the young lads nonetheless.
(9) Fernando Torres
FIFA 12 rating: 86
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 86
El NiƱo started the season with a few good performances, but lost his way midway through the season. However, he regained his form towards the end of the season with a hat trick against QPR and of course, the goal at Nou Camp, which ended all of Barca's hopes of a comeback. He eventually won the Golden Boot at the Euro 2012, even after being used mostly as a substitute.
(10) Juan Mata
FIFA 12 rating: 85
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 87
The immediate impact of the winger, who was given the no 10 shirt from Yossi Benayoun, was seen in the fact that he was eventually voted Chelsea's player of the season. Enough said.
(11) Oscar
FIFA 12 rating: 77
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 80
Chelsea's new boy given the famous no 11 shirt previously worn by departing club legend Didier Drogba was quite a shock for many, and it remains to be seen whether he can do justice to the same.
(12) Mikel
FIFA 12 rating: 81
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 82
Mikel found himself as a fringe role player under Villas Boas, but came back into the squad (at the cost of Romeu) under di Matteo with a bang. Solid performances against Barcelona in both legs showed that he has indeed learned from his habit of committing unnecessary fouls at the most unexpected of times.
(13) Victor Moses
FIFA 12 rating: 72
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 78
The no 13 last worn by Michael Ballack, Victor Moses is quite a signing. With an impressive record with Wigan, he will mostly be an impact substitute, but can do so with lethal effect provided he can do what he does best- run at defenders!
(15) Florent Malouda
FIFA 12 rating: 84
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 80
Having been told he had no future with the club, and failing to find a club in the summer due to his wage demands, he has been forced to play with the U-21 team. It's really sad, considering Malouda, being a midfielder/winger, was the highest scorer for Chelsea as recent as two seasons ago! What more can be said?
(17) Eden Hazard
FIFA 12 rating: 85
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 87
After a lengthy transfer saga, which involved Hazard flirting with quite a few Premier League giants, he finally chose the UCL Champions! He has adapted quickly to the Premier League, forming a good partnership with Torres. At 21, he only has bigger things to achieve!
(19) Paulo Ferreira
FIFA 12 rating: 74
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 74
Not much of a role to play in the previous campaign, I don't presume there would be any change in the rating for this team player, who has never complained of being benched and has always come on in times of need!
(21) Marko Marin
FIFA 12 rating: 80
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 80
The former Werder Bremen no 10 has yet to start a match for Chelsea owing to a hamstring injury. He is close to a return, but FIFA 13 would probably be out before he makes his Chelsea debut.
(22) Ross Turnbull
FIFA 12 rating: 73
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 73
Hardly any role to play in the season, this rating is highly unexpected to change.
(23) Daniel Sturridge
FIFA 12 rating: 80
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 80
He started the first half of the season with a bang under Villas Boas. However, under Robbie di Matteo, he lost his touch of scoring goals for fun, and was termed a selfish player, shooting at every possible opportunity! With a decent performance for Great Britain in the Olympics and almost leaving for Liverpool in the summer, he is expected to retain his rating.
(24) Gary Cahill
FIFA 12 rating: 79
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 82
Life for Gary Cahill changed when he signed from rock bottom Bolton Wanderers in January, and went on to lift the Champions League. With Terry's absence, he played the final after winning the battle against time to overcome his injury.
(26) John Terry
FIFA 12 rating: 86
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 84
John Terry had an okay-ish season. But that would have been great had he not got sent off in the semi final for his foul on (drama queen) Alexis Sanchez. With age catching up on him, leading to a comparatively higher number of mistakes, I guess his rating would suffer a bit.
(28) Cesar Azpilicueta
FIFA 12 rating: 75
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 78
Finally signed from Marsielle after a summer long chase, Azpi has a lot of expectations on his shoulders. Having played just a reserve game for Chelsea, his rating would be based on his Marsielle performances from last season.
(34) Ryan Bertrand
FIFA 12 rating: 69
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 78
A player who di Matteo has put a lot of faith on, considering he made his UCL debut in the all important final. He did his job relatively well for a young debutant- mark Lahm. He was eventually taken off for Malouda. Having signed a new 5 year contract, with his tremendous pace and expected to be Cole's long term successor, his rating is bound to increase!
(40) Henrique Hilario
FIFA 12 rating: 74
Predicted FIFA 13 rating: 74
Hardly a match or two, with a relatively weak performance, his rating would not change in FIFA 13.
