From the first bench to the dais: My saga at the ImpaCt Education Centre continues...

It was a Sunday evening...

Sunday- a very tough day for someone who is preparing for the JEE, especially if you are enrolled in ImpaCt Education Centre! One thing needs to be clarified before we proceed. The 'C' of 'ImpaCt' is written is capitals. That's something we follow by tradition. Even Manav Sir (for the record, and for all those who are in doubt, he teaches Chemistry here; in fact the best Chemistry teacher Guwahati has to offer and he's also the owner of ImpaCt) couldn't explain why it is so.
Since early morning(by early, I mean 8; because my morning starts at 9 or even 10!), you have to attend back to back classes until every juice is sucked out of you (back to back movies sound a lot better; considering Cinemax is just a hundred metres from ImpaCt and you literally go by the booking counter and the posters before you reach the class), but then, that's required for preparing someone for the toughest competitive exam in the world! Now, by the time you reach the second year of higher secondary, you have a very good idea about your relative position among your peers! That's where the bunking starts! Sunday, being the most hectic day, always excites the bunking 'association'!

Now, coming back to my story, after successfully clearing the JEE last year, I got an opportunity to teach(THAT'S RIGHT, TEACH!) at ImpaCt! Although I did have a hunch for about a month now, I was informed of this just over 24 hours ago... As soon as I knew that, the first thing I did was to change my Fb profile :P (that's right, an intern at ImpaCt is supposed to be prestigious) and wall posts & comments followed... That's something of an honour, actually, to face students, who are sitting at the very place I was just over a year ago! As a student, I always liked Stoichiometry (and almost everything else that followed in Physical Chemistry) and that is exactly what I chose to teach! Now, I did prepare for days leading to the this, but even with Stoichiometry under my belt, I assure you, my first class in ImpaCt was nothing near perfect! No matter how many times you have gone through this moment in your mind, you end up not knowing what to say first! Thankfully, as it was a Sunday evening, there were not many students to notice! I was seriously short of words and I ended up saying, "Hey, my name is Shaumik and no need to call me sir... Shaumik is fine with me"(come on, these guys were just 2 years younger!). That's silly enough, right? Two typo errors followed, which the students (geniuses, and I do like my errors corrected ASAP) pointed out promptly... Soon enough, I did kick into the Stoichiometric gears and everything went along smoothly (for me at least...) Oh, and did I mention that I almost tripped over a (damn) wire (TWICE; the second time it was not kinda visible...) during the time? Fortunately (and more than that, surprisingly!) no one even smiled! These people, indeed, have respect!

The point is, no matter how good your oratory skills are or how good your knowledge is, you are bound to fumble in your first class and it is actually about moving on... So beware Debanga and Parikshit! Although, this is what you are destined to do: from sitting at the first bench in Manav Sir's class to lecturing from the dais to his disciples(weird, but the first bench and the dais are just 20 cm apart...)!
